Air Academy High School’s Kadet Sports Live Crew is kicking off a brand-new season of student-led sports broadcasting, and it’s nothing short of impressive! Under the direction of CTE Digital Media teacher A.J. Longhenry, students are gaining hands-on experience that mirrors real-world sports newscasting.

The crew’s first live production of the season took place September 4th as the Kadets took on Pueblo East in volleyball. The broadcast, entirely student-produced, features a five-camera setup, live commentary, instant replays, and on-screen graphics, all managed by the students themselves.

This isn’t just classroom learning. The team works directly with KRDO engineers to time commercial breaks and ensures professional broadcast quality. Their production will even be replayed on KRDO, giving the community a front-row seat to both the game and the incredible talent of Academy District 20 students.

Mr. Longhenry shared,

“It’s a blast... 5-camera shoot, all student produced, commentators, instant replay, graphics, it’s the whole production!”

These experiences are what Career and Technical Education (CTE) is all about, students learning valuable industry skills and exploring future career pathways through authentic, hands-on opportunities.
