Pine Creek’s first-year Biomedical students are diving into hands-on lab work that turns classroom learning into real scientific practice. Guided by Dr. Rebecca Davie Keith, they’re building confidence, curiosity, and career-ready skills.

Our Year 1 Biomedical students at Pine Creek High School are diving into hands-on science with their very first DNA gel mapping project. In September, students are learning how to extract DNA from cells and examine how restriction enzymes cut DNA to code for specific genes. They also took their learning even further, amplifying genes and collecting data to use a standard curve for DNA mapping.

This type of real-world, lab-based experience is what makes CTE so impactful. Students aren’t just reading about science in a textbook, they are becoming scientists, practicing the exact skills that researchers and medical professionals use every day.

A huge part of this success is thanks to Dr. Rebecca Davie Keith, whose expertise and enthusiasm make these complex concepts accessible, exciting, and deeply engaging for students. Her dedication ensures that every learner feels challenged, supported, and inspired to explore future careers in biomedical sciences.

As district staff, it’s incredible to witness the amazing work happening across our CTE programs. These classrooms are alive with discovery, creativity, and real-world application, showcasing exactly why CTE is such a powerful part of preparing students for college, careers, and beyond.
